You are important, even if you have 1,000 responsibilities and small people who depend on you. Equally as true is the fact that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Want to help others? First you must learn how to care for yourself.

Here are some easy ways you can love yourself:

 

Ask for what you need.

There is nothing wrong about asking for what you need. If you need love, patience, empathy, hugs, support, just ask for it. You aren’t helping anyone keeping it to yourself, and, generally the people in your life want you to be happy. (If they don’t, maybe you need new people in your life.)

 

 

 

Take your time getting ready.

You are important, so don’t rush your care. Give yourself the time you deserve. Put on a playlist that makes you feel good. Think of things you’re grateful for. And while you brush your teeth, and wash your face you know you’re doing these actions because you care for yourself on the most basic levels.

 

 

Take Naps.

Don’t you wish you could go back in time and reclaim all those naps you denied yourself as a child? Whether it’s 5 minutes to close your eyes and practice deep breathing or a full on 20 minutes of counting sheep. Allow yourself to recharge. You deserve it.

 

 

 

Spend time with people who bring out the best in you. 

It’s easy to tell who brings out the best in you. When you are at your best you feel good. When you choose to spend time with people who honor you, love you, and respect you, you are making a choice that you are worthy of that.

 

 

 

 

Put pictures of your young self around the house. 

I have found that seeing yourself in a younger and more innocent form can help monitor one’s tone of self talk. You have to be who you needed when you were younger for yourself.
